    Oxfam Hygiene Promotion Project
    Harper, Liberia
    October-December 2011

Youth involved in the pilot project in Harper City gained recognition from Oxfam as well as other NGO’s for their work in creating the murals. As a result, Oxfam contracted Colors of Connection to produce informational paintings on hygiene promotion for Little Wlebo Refugee Camp. Seven of the most talented youth participants were selected, and they had the opportunity to apply their skills and gain an income in this project.

Told from the perspective of one youth participant Phillip, age 15, “After we did the drawings Oxfam, saw the paintings and they got in contact with our teacher and she too got in contact with us and we started doing a little job for them.” Twelve paintings were produced, each with an individual style. Instead of simple illustrations of hygiene promotion, the youth participants created original colorful designs that were installed in Little Wlebo Refugee Camp. We are pleased to report that the Oxfam regional director was very impressed with the outcome!
